Operating Features
Soft Start
: As the power is turned ON, the module will look at the existing zone
temperature and determines if Soft Start cycle is needed. The Soft Start cycle
is activated when zone temperature is below 212° F, at the time of start
up. The Soft Start cycle time is set at 5 min. and during this time reduced
output power is applied to heater. The Soft Start time can be changed by using
"rSt" option or can be locked by using "rSL"
option.
Top
Normal Operation :
After completion of Soft Start cycle the control module will switch to automatic
control mode. At this time the control module will apply necessary power to
bring the process temperature up to the set point temperature and maintain it
there.
Top
Setting
Operating Temperature : The set point is normally set at 400° F
at the factory. You can change set point at any time by pressing "UP"
or " DOWN" keys. The control module has been designed to
remember the last entered temperature even if the module is taken out of service
or lost power.

High Amperage
Indication : To help protect valuable molds, cables, connectors,
manifolds and other related equipment, uATC-15a control module has a
safety device, which will alarm if a heater draws current above its rated
capacity. The control module allows the operator to set "HiA"
value just above the heaters maximum current draw. The uATC-15a will
trigger an alarm and disable the power to the heater if current draw exceeds the
set value. Utilizing this feature can save time and expense by getting attention
to the problem before damage occurs.
Top
Anti-Arching : The
uATC-15a module is equipped with our innovative Anti-Arching feature,
that will help preventing damage to the control module and main frame in the
event the module is inadvertently removed under load. This feature should not be
considered a substitute for proper handling procedures, but rather a
supplemental protection mechanism.
If this module is inserted in to main frame not equipped with Anti-Arching, the
system will not provide power to the heater and "toH" error
code will be displayed. If this condition occurs, the Anti-Arching jumper can be
moved from 2-3 (enabled) position to 1-2 (disabled) position. By repositioning
the jumper to anti-arching disabled position, the module will function in main
frame which are not equipped with Anti-Arching feature.

Shorted Triac
Protection : ITC has made provisions within the uTC-15a
module for protection against shorted triac. This new circuitry disables power
to the heater in the event the main triac is shorted. In a situation the power
to heater is detected even when temperature is well above the set point, and
module will disable power to the heater. A "tSH" error code
will be displayed to avert any damage to mold or heater.
Top
Open Triac / Open
Heater : The uTC-15a will alert the operator in the event
of an open triac or heater, by displaying "toH" error code.
This condition is detected if the heater fails to maintain or rise to set point
temperature and there is no current flowing to the heater. The time frame of
this feature can be adjusted by "toh" option.
Top
High &
Low temperature Alarm : The high and low temperature alarms have
been set at factory at 30° F. If the zone temperature drops 30° below or
exceeds 30° the set point, the alarm will be activated.
Top
Thermocouple
Break Protection : In the event thermocouple failure is detected
in operation, uTC-15a has the ability to automatically control
temperature with stored Average Power Output information, if the "tcb"
feature is set to "APO".
Top
Shorted
Thermocouple Indication : In the event that the control module
fails to detect a rise in temperature while power is being supplied to the
heaters, the uTC-15a module will activate an alarm.
Top
100% Power Key
: When "100% PWR" key is pressed and held, the module put out
full power until the key is released or the process temperature reaches the high
temperature alarm limit. The audible alarm will sound when this key is held to
make sure that it is not done in error.
Note : The "100% PWR" key is disabled during the Soft
Start cycle.
Top
Manual Operation
: To operate the control module manually, push the "MAN" key.
the percentage of output power will be displayed in set point window. Push
"UP" or "DOWN" keys respectively to change the output
percentage. If the thermocouple feedback is available the process temperature
will blink.
Note : Alarms will not operate in manual mode.

Selectable
Features of uTC-15a
Selectable feature changing procedure :
-
To enter the Option Menu, press "SEL OPTS" key the
desired option code appears in the process temperature (upper) window. As
you scroll through the option menu, the present setting of each option will
be displayed in set point (lower) window.
-
To change an option setting, use "UP" or
"DOWN" keys.
-
To exit the option menu, continue to press the "SEL
OPTS" key until you reach the end of option menu. At this time "STR"
will be displayed in the process temperature (upper) window, which indicates
that your settings have been stored and the unit will resume normal
operation.

Thermocouple Break (Average Power Output). If
this option is set to "APO" and thermocouple input is lost
during operation, the module alarm and indicate that the thermocouple
input is open. However, the instrument will continue to deliver the same
average power to the heater as it had delivered just prior to losing
thermocouple signal. |

Select Control Algorithm Method. (F2y or Pid )
F2y (Fuzzy) will control the temperature by adjusting the amperage tot he
heater, providing a ripple free effect and improved heater life. Pid
(Proportional) will control the temperature by turning on and off
proportionately. Typically either method will control as well as the
other. However, the Pid control method must be used when the control
module is operating solid state relays. |

the amount of time that the soft start cycle is active if a minimum
temperature of 212° F has not been reached. |

Ground Fault Sensitivity (60 to 180 mA) This
Feature allows the user to set the ground fault sensitivity value. This
feature can be set to OFF, to do so set the feature to off , switch off
the module and back on. |
120 mA |
| HiA |
High Amperage Indication (1 to 16 Amp) If the
instrument detects a current draw that exceeds the preset value, this
feature will cut power to the heater and display an "HiA"
warning. This feature allows for setting a current warning level just
above the maximum draw of the heater. When the instrument detects a
current greater than the predetermined value, it will alarm and shut off
power to the heater. |

Soft Start Lock (ON or OFF) This feature
prevents the Soft Start parameter from being overridden from front panel.
With this feature turned on, the Soft Start cycle must be completed prior
to entering either manual or automatic control mode. |

Keypad Loackout (Locked or Unlocked) This
feature locks out the front panel with exception of "SEL OPTS"
key. This lockout prevents accidental changing of temperature setting etc.
To lock out the front panel keys select "LOC" and to unlock the
setting, select "uNL" |

Optional Feature : Global Boost (0° to 100° F)
The Global Boost feature is not a standard feature, it requires
modification to both the module and main frame. This feature allows for
the input temperature by which the set point can be increased when Boos
feature is activated. (For detail click on Optional GBS Features

Amperage over run. When the module detects
current which is greater than the set value, it will disable power to the
heater |
| toH |
The module triac or heater circuit is open. This
error message will be displayed when the module detects an under
temperature condition for a period longer than the value selected in
"toH" and no current is detected. |
| tSH |
Main triac is shorted. This error massage
displays when an over temperature condition occurs and current flow is
detected. If this condition occurs, the instrument will disable power to
the heater. |
