Standard Operating Features
Normal Operation :
When the power switch on the module is turned ON, the control module will look
at the existing zone temperature and determine if the "SOFT START"
cycle is needed. The "SOFT START" cycle will be activated any
time the zone temperature is below 212° F, when the module is turned ON. Upon completion of
"SOFT START" cycle the control module will automatically switch to automatic
control mode. At this time the control module will apply necessary power to
bring the process temperature up to the set point temperature and maintain it
there.
Top
Setting Operating Temperature
: The set point is normally set at 400° F at the factory. You can change set
point at any time by pressing "UP" or " DOWN" keys. The
control module has been designed to remember the last entered temperature after
being shut off until later use.
Top
Soft Start :
The "SOFT START" cycle applies a reduced output power to the
heater at start up. The module only activates Soft Start if the initial process
temperature at the start up is below 212° F. The output is gradually increased
while the zone temperature is kept below 212° F. The Soft Start cycle time is
factory set at 5 min. The Soft Start time may be changed by using "rSt" option.
Top
Ground Fault Sensitivity :
The uATC-15a control module is equipped with ground fault detection circuit.
When Soft Start cycle terminates, the control module checks the current leakage
to ground in the heater circuit. If the leakage is in excess of the value entered
"gfs" option is detected, the Soft Start cycle will be reactivated.
Upon completion of second Soft Start cycle, the module will again check
for leakage to ground. If the leakage is still in excess of the entered value, the
control module will go into alarm & "gFd" is displayed in
process temperature window. The ground fault sensitivity is factory set at 120
mA. Sensitivity may be adjusted or turned off by in option "gfs".
To disable ground fault, first set the option to "OFF" then turn the
module off and back on.
Top
Manual Operation
: To operate the control module manually, push the "MAN" key.
the percentage of output power will be displayed in the set point window. Push
"UP" or "DOWN" keys to change the output
percentage. If the thermocouple feedback is available the process temperature
window will be blank.
Note : Alarms will not operate in manual mode.
Top
Amps Key : When
"Amps" key is pressed, the process temperature (upper) window
will display the average amperage draw of the heater circuit. You can read full load amps
also by pressing the "100% PWR" key for several seconds while the unit is
in amperage display mode. To return to process temperature press
"Amps" key again.
Top
Stand-By mode : When "STBY"
key is pressed the control module will automatically lower the set point to
212° F. To return back to previous set point press the "STBY" key
again.
Top
High Amperage Indication :
To help protect valuable molds and other related
equipment, a safety device will alarm if a heater is drawing current above the
rated capacity. Set the temperature in Option "HiA" to a value
just above the heaters maximum draw. The uATC-15a will trigger an alarm and disable the power to the heater if
current draw exceeds the set value. Utilizing this feature can save time and
expense by getting attention to the problem before damage occurs.
Top
High and
Low Temperature Alarm : The high and low temperature alarms have
been factory set at 30° F. If the zone temperature drops 30° below the
setpoint or the temperature exceeds 30° above the setpoint, the alarm will be
activated. Alarm settings may be adjusted in the options "utA"
or "otA".
Top
Shorted Triac
Protection : ITC has made provisions within the uATC-15a
module for protection against shorted triac. Within the circuitry are relays
which disables power
to the heater in the event the main triac is shorted. In a situation when power
to heater is detected when the temperature is well above the setpoint, and
module will disable power to the heater. A "tSH" error code
will be displayed to avert any damage to mold or heater.
Top
Open Triac /
Open Heater : The uATC-15a will alert the operator in the
event of an open triac or heater, by displaying "toH" error
massage in the upper window. This condition is detected if the heater fails to maintain or rise to setpoint temperature and there is
an absence of current flowing to the heater. The time frame
of this feature can be adjusted in option "toh".
Top
Thermocouple
Break Protection : In the event a thermocouple fails in the open
condition after reaching setpoint temperature, the module will automatically control
temperature with stored Average Power Output information, if the option "tcb"
is set to "APO". This feature only operates at setpoint
temperature.
Top
Reverse
Thermocouple Protection : The module will scrutinize actual
voltage through the thermocouple. In the event a negative voltage is detected,
the "REV" LED will flash and power will not be applied to the
heater.
Top
Shorted
Thermocouple Indication : In the event a thermocouple fails to detect a rise in temperature while power is being supplied to the
heaters, the uATC-15a module will activate an alarm. The "OPEN"
and "REV" LED will flash alternately.
Top
100% Power Key
: When "100% PWR" key is pressed and held, the module put out
full power until the key is released or the process temperature reaches the high
temperature alarm limit. The audible alarm will sound when this key is held to
make sure that it is not done in error.
Note : The "100% PWR" key is disabled during the Soft
Start cycle.
Top
Anti-Arcing : The
uATC-15a module is equipped with our innovative Anti-Arching feature,
that will help preventing damage to the control module and main frame in the
event the module is inadvertently removed under load. This feature should not be
considered a substitute for proper handling procedures, but rather a
supplemental protection mechanism.
If this module is inserted in to main frame not equipped with Anti-Arching, the
system will not provide power to the heater and "toH" error
code will be displayed. If this condition occurs, the Anti-Arching jumper can be
moved from 2-3 (enabled) position to 1-2 (disabled) position. By repositioning
the jumper to anti-arching disabled position, the module will function in main
frame which are not equipped with Anti-Arching feature.
Note
: a) This feature will only work with ITC's
updated TC-2000 main frames.
b) The Anti-Arcing feature will not prevent damage if the
jumper is in disabled position.
c) The Anti-Arcing feature in the module will not prevent
damage if the module is used in a main frame not
equipped with anti-arcing.
d) ITC main frame manufactured prior to March 2000 were not
equipped with Anti-Arcing feature. To
upgrade consult
factory.

Thermocouple Break (APO - Average Power Output). If this option is
set to "APO" and thermocouple input is lost during operation,
the module will alarm and indicate that the thermocouple input is open.
However, instead of disabling power to heater, the instrument will continue to
apply the same average power to
the heater as it applied just prior to losing thermocouple signal. (APO or
